The Competition Commission of India (CCI) offers an exceptional internship programme designed to immerse students in the real-world application of competition law. This initiative aims to familiarize enthusiastic students of Economics, Law, Management, and Finance with the provisions and applications of the Competition Act.
Objective
- To provide students with hands-on experience in competition law.
- Note: This internship does not guarantee employment at CCI.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Open to Indian nationals only.
- Institution: Students from recognized institutions and universities with exposure to competition law.
- Job Placement: Students already holding a job placement are not eligible.
Educational Qualifications
Students pursuing the following courses are eligible to apply:
Economics and Management:
- MA / MSc (Economics)
- Fourth and final year of a 5-year integrated degree programme in Economics
- MBA
Law:
- Second and third year of a 3-year LLB after graduation
- Fourth and final year of a 5-year integrated LLB
- LLM
Regulatory Governance:
- MA / MSc (Regulatory Governance)
Scheme of Internship
- Duration: Typically one month, starting on the 1st working day. Internships of 2-3 months are possible with appropriate academic recommendations.
- Induction: A short induction on the Competition Act, 2002, will be conducted on the first day.
- Assignments: Interns will be assigned to various divisions and will work under the guidance of designated officers. At the end of the internship, a presentation on the work done is mandatory for receiving the certificate and stipend.
- Discipline: Interns must maintain discipline, punctuality, and integrity. Failure to do so may result in termination.
- Intake: Up to 15 interns per month, with flexibility for more if applicants have strong research topics.
- Attendance: Full-time commitment is required. Unauthorized absences may lead to discontinuation of the internship and withholding of the honorarium.
Honorarium
Interns will receive an honorarium of Rs. 15,000 per month.
Application Process
- Format: Apply using the prescribed format in the Annexure. Other formats will not be considered.
- Recommendation: Applications must include a recommendation from the applicant’s academic institution.
- Statement of Purpose: Submit a 200-word statement of purpose outlining the topic and objectives of the study.
- Deadline: Applications must be received by the 1st of the month preceding the intended internship month (e.g., for December, apply by November 1st).
- Submission: Send applications by post to The Secretary, Competition Commission of India, 10th Floor, Office Block, Tower 1, Ring Road (Opposite AIIMS), Kidwai Nagar (East), New Delhi-110023, or email to internships@cci.gov.in.
- Envelope: Mark the envelope with “Application for Internship for Month/Year”.
Other Modalities
- Logistics: Interns will be provided with office space, intercom, and computer facilities.
- Library Access: Interns can use the Commission’s library.
- Interactions: Recommending authorities are expected to be available for interactions with the Commission.
- Confidentiality: Interns must declare they do not hold a job placement and must maintain confidentiality of any information related to the Commission.
- Intellectual Property: The outcome of the internship study will remain the intellectual property of the Commission and cannot be used without prior approval.
- Flexibility: Internship requirements may be relaxed by the Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India.
