Britain's Hindujas family is the wealthiest in the UK.
Four members of the family -Prakash and Kamal Hinduja and their sons Ajay and Namrata were sentenced to jail by a Swiss court.
The appeal was made in a higher court challenging the verdict, finding them guilty of exploiting vulnerable domestic workers from India at their villa in Geneva.
The statement has been released by family lawyers, who dismissed all the media reports that any family member faced detention from Geneva. They also made a statement regarding the verdict of Swiss court "Our clients have been acquitted of all human trafficking charges.
We are appalled and disappointed by the rest of the decision made in this court of first instance, and we have, of course, filed an appeal to the higher court, thereby making this part of the judgement not effective,”
Swiss law also follows the same laws as India; the presumption of innocence is paramount till a final judgement by the highest adjudicating authority is enforced.
Lawyers representing the family also pointed out that complainants in the case withdrew their allegations, stating in court that they had been misled into signing statements they did not even understand.
"It may be noted that the case has no complainants left anymore and they had declared in the court that they were led into signing statements that they didn't even understand. They had neither intended to nor initiated such proceedings. They further testified that the four Hinduja Family Members treated them with respect, dignity and like family.
The prosecutors in Geneva had opened a case against the above-mentioned members of Hinduja family involving allegations of illegal activities, including exploitation, human trafficking, and violations of Switzerland's labour laws.
The family members were accused of confiscating workers' passports, preventing them from leaving the villa, and forcing them to work excessively long hours for minimal pay, among other charges.
