The opposition parties aligned with the INDIA bloc intend to lodge adjournment motions in both chambers of Parliament on June 28 These motions will address alleged irregularities in the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) and incidents of exam paper leaks in other public examinations

The decision was made during a meeting at the official residence of Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha. Rahul Gandhi, the LoP in the Lok Sabha, was also present at the meeting along with other alliance party leaders. It is anticipated that Mr Gandhi will officially announce the Opposition’s strategy on Friday morning during a media interaction just before the Lok Sabha begins its session.

What is an Adjournment motion?

The adjournment motion is introduced in Parliament to address a specific urgent matter of public importance. It requires the support of 50 members to be admitted and is considered an important parliamentary procedure. In essence, the adjournment motion is an extraordinary process that, when admitted, interrupts the regular business of the House to discuss a pressing matter of public importance.

Despite potential government resistance, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is prepared to address queries related to NEET and other exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) during the ongoing Discussion on the Motion of Thanks for the President's Address.

President's Address and Opposition Response:-

President Droupadi Murmu's recent parliamentary address emphasized the government's commitment to investigating paper leaks thoroughly. However, criticism from Opposition leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and CPI General Secretary D. Raja, highlighted perceived shortcomings in the government's response to issues like unemployment, inflation, and regional conflicts.

Challenges and Government Response:-

Despite the government's assurances of fair investigations and accountability measures, Opposition leaders remain sceptical about the efficacy of current policies. They argue for more concrete actions to address the impacts of paper leaks on millions of youth nationwide.

Conclusion and Future Debate:-

The decision to table adjournment motions underscores deep-seated concerns over governance and educational policies in India. It sets the stage for a vigorous parliamentary debate on NEET issues and broader concerns regarding the government's handling of educational and social challenges.
