Mayawati declared a reorganization in which she restored her nephew Akash Anand to the position of national coordinator of the party and her "successor."
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati restored her nephew Akash Anand as the party's national coordinator and political successor on Sunday, six weeks after dismissing Anand from that role. The declaration was made at a party leaders' meeting that was held to discuss the party's loss in the Lok Sabha elections.
Mayawati, the party president, has once again allowed Akash Anand to serve in the party in a mature manner. He will continue in his previous positions within the party, according to a statement from the BSP. The statement further mentions that Mayawati has chosen Akash as her "sole" successor.
"I hope he fully emerges as a ‘mature leader' at every level in the best interests of the party and movement. In order, for him to meet my expectations, party members are also urged to support him by treating him with greater respect than they did in the past," Mayawati stated in the statement.
The conference took place at the party's UP state headquarters in Lucknow and was reportedly attended by all national office-bearers and party leaders from every state, including Anand. Before the meeting began, Anand touched Mayawati's feet and asked for her blessings.
On May 7, Mayawati fired him and told him that he would be removed "until he attains maturity."
