AI candidate contested election in UK

AI Steve, an AI candidate in the 2024 UK general election, developed by Steve Endacott contested in Brighton pavilion but secured only 179 votes. The AI aimed to offer continuous constituent engagement but struggled to gain traction.

Mr. Endacott, unhappy with the usual way politics is done, introduced AI Steve as a new kind of candidate. AI Steve, created by the Neural Voice company, was designed to talk to voters all the time and discuss different issues and policies.

AI Steve could chat with up to 10,000 people at once. Earlier, the UK's election authorities clarified that if AI Steve won, Steve Endacott, the human, would be the actual member of Parliament, not the AI. Despite being the first AI candidate in a UK election, AI Steve's campaign didn't receive much support.

In the Brighton Pavilion constituency, 70% of people voted, and the Green Party's Sian Berry won the seat. AI Steve finished last with 179 votes.

Labour’s Keir Starmer became the new Prime Minister, securing a majority government with over 326 seats in the House of Commons. This decisive win marks the end of 14 years of Conservative rule, with Mr Starmer set to become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Rishi Sunak, the incumbent Prime Minister, has conceded defeat after multiple cabinet members lost their seats
