Lucknow and Surrounding Areas Designated as Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region

The Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region has been officially designated, encompassing Lucknow and its adjacent districts under the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region and Other Regions Development Authority Ordinance, 2024 (UP Ordinance 4 of 2024).

Scope of Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region

Governor Anandiben Patel has formally declared Lucknow (2,528 sq km) along with Hardoi (5,985 sq km), Sitapur (5,743 sq km), Unnao (4,558 sq km), Rae Bareli (4,609 sq km), and Barabanki (4,402 sq km) as part of the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region, totalling 27,826 square kilometres.

 Establishment of Development Authority

In conjunction with the declaration, the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region Development Authority has been established. Led by the Governor, this authority will oversee developmental initiatives and resource management within the region.

 Legislative Backing and Cabinet Approval

The decision to develop the State Capital Region, akin to Delhi's National Capital Region (NCR), was formalized on March 6. The Uttar Pradesh state Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved the draft ordinance and development plans for the region. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna emphasized the planned growth and development of adjoining districts such as Hardoi, Sitapur, and Unnao.

 Conclusion
