The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken a firm stand against Ahmad K. from Delhi, who made a lewd and derogatory comment on a photo of the widow of Kirti Chakra Captain Anshuman Singh. The NCW, led by Chairperson Rekha Sharma, has demanded immediate action from the Delhi Police, citing the blatant violation of Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The commission has urged the Delhi Police Commissioner to arrest Ahmad K. and provide a detailed report within three days.
In a strongly worded letter, the NCW emphasized its role in monitoring and addressing the deprivation of women's rights, as empowered by Section 10 of the National Commission for Women Act, 1990. The commission condemned the crude language used by Ahmad K. and highlighted the seriousness of the issue. The letter detailed the legal provisions violated by the accused, including the intention to insult the modesty of a woman and the transmission of obscene material in electronic form.
The NCW's letter stressed the need for the police to invoke the relevant legal provisions in the FIR against Ahmad K. and ensure his prompt arrest. It called for a fair and time-bound investigation, underscoring the importance of protecting women's rights and dignity. The commission's swift and decisive response reflects its commitment to addressing such offenses and holding perpetrators accountable.
