NTA's Response to Conflict Allegations
In response to allegations raised by Narendra Hooda, representing the petitioner in the NEET UG case, NTA submitted a supplementary chargesheet affirming the procedural integrity of its operations. The agency clarified that the director of any IIT involved in conducting the JEE (Advanced) serves as an ex-officio member of the NTA's governing body. Notably, this year, IIT Madras was responsible for conducting the examination. However, NTA highlighted that its day-to-day operations are managed by a separate managing committee, while the governing body primarily focuses on policy matters.
Nomination and Attendance Details
Addressing further scrutiny, NTA disclosed that the IIT Madras director had nominated another professor to represent the institute at governing body meetings. However, this nominee has not attended any sessions since December of the previous year. Additionally, the director himself has been absent from all governing body meetings since December 2022.
Centre's Defense in NEET UG Case
During the court proceedings on alleged irregularities in NEET, the Centre presented its defence, underscoring the findings from IIT Madras's report on data analytics. According to this analysis, the distribution of marks conforms to a bell-shaped curve typical of large-scale examinations, indicating no anomalies. The report further notes an overall increase in student marks, attributed to a 25% reduction in syllabus. This increase spans multiple cities and centres, suggesting minimal likelihood of foul play.
This clarification from NTA and the Centre's data-backed assertions aims to dispel doubts surrounding the integrity of NEET UG results, amid ongoing national discussions and protests.
