The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Continues to Champion Diversity and Excellence in Arbitration

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment within its arbitration community. With a strong focus on ensuring generational, gender, and geographical diversity, the ICC Court appointments reflect the organization’s dedication to representing the global business community effectively.


A Truly Global Representation

The ICC Court, renowned for its excellence in arbitration, now includes a robust representation from across the globe. The current composition includes:

- 35 members and vice-presidents from Africa,

- 61 from the Asia-Pacific region,

- 22 from the Middle East,

- 62 from Europe,

- 26 from Latin America, and

- Eight from Anglo-America.

This diverse representation ensures that the ICC Court is well-equipped to handle a wide range of international arbitration matters, with insights and perspectives from various regions contributing to the decision-making process.


A Milestone in Gender Diversity

The I.C.C. Court has achieved a significant milestone in gender diversity, with women now making up approximately 51% of its members. Out of the 191 members, there are 97 female and 94 male representatives. This balanced representation underscores the ICC’s commitment to gender equality and its recognition of women's invaluable contributions to the arbitration field.


New Vice-Presidents Bring Expertise and Diversity

The recent appointments of seven new vice presidents further enhance the Court’s expertise and diversity. These distinguished professionals include:

1. Isaiah Bozimo (Nigeria/United Kingdom) - Partner at Broderick Bozimo and Company in Abuja.

2. Julie Bédard (Canada/France) - Partner and the Head of Skadden’s International Litigation and Arbitration Group for the Americas.

3. Stavros Brekoulakis (Greece) - Michael & Laura Hwang Professor in International Arbitration at the National University of Singapore; Arbitrator at 3 Verulam Buildings (Gray’s Inn) in London.

4. Valeria Galíndez (Brazil/Argentina) - Partner at Galíndez Arb in São Paulo.

5. Carmen Martinez Lopez (Spain/United Kingdom) - Partner at Three Crowns in Madrid.

6. May Tai (Malaysia)  - Independent arbitrator and Consultant with Herbert Smith Freehills in Hong Kong.

7. Marieke van Hooijdonk (Netherlands) - Partner at A&O Shearman.

These vice presidents, along with the president and the 19 other vice presidents of the Court, comprise the Bureau. Their collective expertise and diverse backgrounds will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success and integrity of the ICC Court.
