Trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar, who recently became involved in controversy over alleged misuse of power and dubious claims in her UPSC application, now faces a central government investigation. Manoj Dwivedi, Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), has initiated a probe into the allegations against her, which is expected to conclude within two weeks.

Allegations and Misconduct

Ms. Khedkar, a 2023-batch IAS officer, has been accused of several infractions, including using a siren on her private Audi and demanding privileges such as a separate house and car, which are unavailable to junior officers. More severe charges have now emerged, casting doubt on her selection process for the civil services. She may be dismissed if found guilty and could face criminal action for allegedly hiding facts and misrepresentation.

Official Reaction and Reassignment

When approached by the media, Ms. Khedkar has remained silent on the charges, stating she is "not authorized" to speak on the matter. Initially posted as an assistant collector in Pune, she was transferred to Washim after the Pune Collector filed a complaint with the state's Chief Secretary.

Specific Instances of Misuse of Power

Ms. Khedkar reportedly used a siren and a "Government of Maharashtra" sticker on her private luxury sedan. She was also found occupying the office of Pune Additional Collector Ajay More in his absence, removing office furniture, and demanding letterheads and a VIP number plate—privileges not extended to junior officers on a 24-month probation period. Reports indicate her father, a retired administrative officer, supported her demands.

Controversies Over UPSC Candidature

Further scrutiny has arisen over her claim of Other Backward Classes (OBC) status and the disabilities she cited to obtain concessions during the UPSC selection process. She allegedly refused to undergo mandatory medical tests to verify these claims.

Additional Controversies and Public Reaction

Adding to the controversies, an old video has surfaced showing Ms. Khedkar's mother threatening a group of men with a gun. Public and media scrutiny of Ms. Khedkar’s actions and background continue to intensify as the investigation proceeds.
