The BJP on
Monday, August 26, 2024, announced its selection of 16 candidates for the first
phase of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. These elections, scheduled for September 18,
2024, will determine the members of the 90-seat assembly. Earlier, the party
had unveiled a list of 44 candidates, but within a few hours, they issued a
revised version. The new list notably removed names initially intended for
the second and third phases, likely in response to discontent among some
party members regarding the original selections.
Despite the party’s efforts to manage the situation, with Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina minimizing the issue, the dissatisfaction was evident. A group of party workers organized a protest at the BJP headquarters in Jammu, accusing the leadership of favoring "parachute candidates" over dedicated, long-serving party workers
