IMD has issued 'red alert' .
A deep depression is hovering over the Saurashtra - Kutch and Northern Gujarat region.
What is Deep Depression?
Deep depression in Meteorological sense is a low pressure system. This term is used to describe intense low pressure area where the central pressure is significantly lower than the surrounding areas. This leads to severe weather conditions like heavy rain, strong winds, thunderstorms, tropical Storms and even cyclones.
Deep depression strongly disturbes the atmospheric condition if it is above the warm ocean currents. It is more likely to make a huge impact.
How it started?
This atmospheric weather disturbance originated as a low pressure area over north Madhya Pradesh on August 25. This is now intensified as a deep depression and is moving towards west at a speed of 10 km/hour and is now positioned over north Gujarat and southeast of Rajasthan.
Gujarat has been hit hard by the torrential rainfall with many places recording the record-breaking rain.
Consequences
Till now 12 districts 143 villages have been affected, causing power descriptions in around 7000 villages.
This has claimed the lives of many people with death toll reaching 16. Around 8500 people are relocated, and 20000 people have been evacuated.
The national disaster response force [NDRF] is working tirelessly to save the lifes of the people.
Political Party support
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi has expressed concern and urged the government to take all possible measures to ensure the safety of the lives of the people and to mitigate the impact of the natural calamity.
In a post on X, Mr. Kharge expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost their loved ones.
Government Response
1) Rescue forces :- Government has deployed a total of 14 NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams and 22 SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) teams for the rescue operation.
2) High level meeting :- The chief minister of Gujarat conducted a high level meeting to assess the situation of the affected region and to take prompt decision.
3) Schools closed :- The schools are closed in the affected region at the order of the authorities for the better management of the rescue operations.
All the precautions are taken to save the lives of the people residing in the affected area. Government and the authorities are taking all possible measures to ensure minimum damage is caused and are actively responding to manage the situation.
This has greatly affected the daily lives of the people and it will take significant amount of time to return to its normal routine.
