India Celebrates First National Space Day: From Bullock Carts to the Moon’s South Pole

India is celebrating its first National Space Day on August 23, 2024, marking a year since the historic Chandrayaan-3 mission's successful soft landing on the Moon. This milestone made India the fourth country to achieve this feat and the first to land on the lunar South Pole. The theme for this year's celebration is "Touching lives while touching the Moon: India's space saga."

President Murmu and ISRO Chairman joined the celebrations, with various institutions across the country hosting public events.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Nitin Gadkari, and Mansukh Mandaviya, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their pride in India's space achievements.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted his government's "futuristic decisions" in the space sector and promised even more advancements in the future. Hardeep Singh Puri praised ISRO's journey, from humble beginnings to the lunar landing, while mentioning the upcoming Gaganyaan mission in 2024. Nitin Gadkari celebrated India's cosmic strides and the brilliance of ISRO's scientists, emphasizing future missions like Aditya-L1 and Gaganyaan. Mansukh Mandaviya reflected on the "watershed moment" of Chandrayaan-3, reinforcing the nation's commitment to space exploration.
