Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale has made history by winning the country's
first-ever Olympic bronze in the 50m
rifle 3 positions event, increasing India's total medal count at the ongoing
Paris Games to three. Kusale, 28, scored a total of 451.4 in the
eight-shooter final, moving up from sixth to secure the bronze medal.
His victory follows the impressive achievements of Manu Bhaker, who secured
a bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event and the mixed team 10m air pistol
event alongside Sarabjot Singh. All of India's medals so far have been in
shooting events.
In badminton, India's top player Lakshya Sen continues his
pursuit of a first Olympic medal. However, the men's doubles pair
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffered a narrow loss in the
quarterfinals, ending their medal hopes. After the disappointment of Satwik
and Chirag's defeat, Sen provided a boost to the Indian team by defeating HS
Prannoy 21-12, 21-6 in an all-Indian pre-quarterfinal match, becoming only
the third Indian male player to reach the last eight in Olympic badminton.
In golf, Diksha Dagar, who will compete in the women's event at
the Paris Olympics, was involved in a car accident on Tuesday night.
Her mother required hospitalization, but Diksha escaped without major
injuries. According to her father, Col. Naren Dagar, she plans to participate
in the Summer Games as scheduled.
In hockey, the Indian men's hockey team lost 2-1 to Belgium
in their second-to-last Pool B match at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Abhishek
scored in the 18th minute to give India an early lead, but Belgium
came back with goals from Thibeau Stockbroekx and John-John Dohmen in the
second half. This was India’s first loss in Pool B, following victories over
New Zealand (3-2) and Ireland (2-0), and a 1-1 draw with Argentina. India
and Belgium have advanced to the quarter-finals, securing top-four
finishes in their group.
