A 20-year-old third-year LLB student at the National Law University (NLU) Delhi was found dead in her hostel room on Tuesday, police reported. The student, from Chennai, is believed to have died by suicide. Authorities discovered a suicide note near her body, which indicated she did not hold anyone responsible for her decision and expressed apologies to her parents.
According to Additional DCP Nishant Gupta, the student had previously expressed her suicidal thoughts to her roommates in April, leading them to inform her family. She was taken to Chennai for a week to address her concerns. Despite these efforts, her struggles continued, culminating in her tragic death.
NLU Delhi released a statement mourning the loss, emphasizing their commitment to student well-being and extending condolences to the student's family and friends.
The student’s family, who described her as sharp and studious, collected her body from the mortuary after the post-mortem on Thursday.
In a separate but related incident, a 20-year-old student from Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, who had recently secured admission to NLU Delhi after passing the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), was found dead in his Laxmi Nagar PG room on Thursday. The student was discovered unresponsive in his locked room after his landlord became concerned when he received no response.
Police reported that the student had died by inhaling nitrogen gas, with no signs of struggle evident. The air conditioner was running, and initial investigations suggest that the death was by suicide, with no foul play suspected at this time.
